Meet Kate Chapman
Founder & Principal, Baxter Design
Kate Chapman, founder and principal of New York-based firm Baxter Design, believes that a home tells a family’s story. With a discerning eye for detail and a deep appreciation for timeless design, she creates layered, livable interiors that balance sophistication with a sense of ease.
A native of Long Island’s North Shore, Kate’s sensibilities are informed by historic architecture and the enduring influence of classical decoration. Before formally launching her interiors career, she spent nearly two decades immersed in the world of publishing, holding roles at The Wall Street Journal, Coastal Living, and Luxe Interiors + Design.
In 2018, she founded Baxter Design, following formative training under renowned designers Lindsay Coral Harper and Lynde Easterlin Interiors. This experience honed her instinct for the subtleties of space, from textiles and antiques to color and scale. Her work reflects both this traditional foundation and a fresh perspective from years of navigating creative industries in New York.
Kate lives in New York and works on projects throughout the Northeast and beyond.
